Blake Shelton was born on June 18, 1976, in Ada, Oklahoma. His parents were Richard Shelton, a used car salesman and Dorothy, a beauty salon owner. He had an older brother, Richie Shelton who died in an automobile accident in 1990.

He graduated high school at the age of seventeen and skipped college to pursue his musical career.


Blake Shelton started singing at the age of 12 and wrote his first song by his 15th birthday. He was taught to play the guitar by his uncle at an early age. He was awarded Denbo Diamond Award.

After finishing off his high school he moved to Tennessee to pursue a musical career. He obtained a production contract with Sony Music and started his career in the musical fraternity. He, later on, signed to Giant Records in 2001.

He joined The Voice from its very first season as a coach and has been on the winning side for four times, more than any other coach.
